The concert kicks off at 3:00 PM and will feature an all-star lineup of some of the best artists in the game! The concert at Freedom Plaza will also feature many of DC's own homegrown talent. DC! Throughout the month of September, we celebrate, amplify and put the
spotlight on the vibrant and diverse creative community of the District.
We are proud to showcase the entrepreneurs and artists who are keeping
DC creative across all 8 Wards.
From September 2nd -30th, we'll host a series of programming that will strengthen our community of entrepreneurial creatives and support the District's growing creative economy. The month will include a Kickoff Event that celebrates DC creatives, a week-long Podcast lab designed to help podcasters grow their series, a MasterClass series led by industry leaders in music and TV, along with an Innovation Fireside Chat. The month-long celebration ends with the Mayor’s Arts Awards (MAA) 2020 that will celebrate, showcase and amplify the power of community, connection, and resilience in all 8 Wards of the District. The 2020 celebration will make history as the first ever virtual MAA ceremony, sharing the humanity and creativity of the District of Columbia with a national and global audience. It will feature stellar performances, local and national celebrities, your favorite creative and arts professionals, and some surprise guests.
The event will showcase humanitarianism, acknowledging the creative community members who have lost loved ones, and also those who have given back during this time to help others in need. The MAA 2020 will also celebrate the creative community by encouraging socially distanced watch parties at home.

DC Radio 96.3 HD4 is turning 3 years old on September 19th! The radio station, operated by OCTFME, is the District of Columbia’s first and official government radio station, in partnership with Howard University’s WHUR. The station's programming enhances the quality-of-life for District residents by broadcasting vital information, sharing programming on emergency and non-emergency services and alerts, and providing community and government affairs programming. In addition, DC Radio 96.3 HD4 provides a media literacy training platform for DC residents and students.

Women In Film & Video presents ScriptDC, the premier conference for Mid-Atlantic filmmakers including writers, directors, producers, editors, and talent to connect with accomplished teachers, consultants and industry professionals. WIFV is currently working to bring the amazing workshops to a virtual platform that will providing the high-quality information and presenters. The organization will be taking over Tuesday evenings for several months to share the 20 or so workshops in a format that is engaging and empowering.

Applications are open until September 15, 2020 for the Performing Arts Promotion Amendment (PAPA) Real Property Tax Rebate.
PAPA provides a tax rebate of up to $15,000 per year for performing arts venues that have a capacity under 300. The venues must host live performances for a minimum of 48 hours a month, for each month, of a taxable year equaling a total of 12 months. They must also pay the artists performing those live performances.
Initiated by the DC Creative Affairs Office and due to the pandemic, the DC Council passed this amendment to the PAPA Tax Rebate.During the 2020 tax year, venues can satisfy the monthly live performance requirement with only 5 months of live performances. The 2020 Tax Year runs from October 2019 - September 2020.
The #EntertainDC Office is pleased to recognize Kamilah Thurmon as our Filmmaker of the Month! Kamilah is an established storyteller who is passionate about creating content that captures the hearts of people from all walks of life and encourages viewers to become inspired. Through diverse platforms over the last 15 years, Kamilah has contributed to and developed popular television shows on major networks, produced legacy projects as a part of her business (Gen2Gen Media), and crafted a local history preservation film as a grant recipient.

The expansive community of Producers, filmmakers, and storytellers established here have truly nourished my identity as a creative entrepreneur," Kamilah said. "Because of what DC has offered me, I’m more eager than ever to make positive, lasting, and impactful contributions to my community and the broader worlds of film, preservation, and representation.”
